Royal Ascot’s third day, which is also known as Ladies Day, has begun.

Women arrived dressed in their finest attire when gates opened at 10.30am this morning.

The Queen is expected to arrive later this morning – possibly with Meghan Markle in tow for some company.

The Royal Ascot races kicked off on Tuesday, June 19, and races will take place every day until Saturday, June 23.

Does Ascot have a Gold Cup?

The Gold Cup is the oldest traditional race and was introduced when the Royal Ascot began.

Winners will receive a golden trophy to keep.

What time is Ascot Gold Cup today?

The Gold Cup race will take place today at 4.20pm.

Other races today include:

• 2.30pm: Norfolk Stakes

• 3.05pm: Hampton Court Stakes

• 3.40pm: Ribblesdale Stakes

• 5pm: Britannia Stakes

• 5.35pm: King George V Stakes

What is the Royal Ascot?

Ascot Racecourse was founded by Queen Anne in 1711 and the first race was held in her honour on August 11 of that year.

Since then, the Royal Family arrive each day in horse-drawn carriages and the races all begin with a Royal Procession.

This year, newlywed Meghan Markle made her debut at the races as a member of the Royal Family.

Ladies Day was first named in 1823.
