Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be stripped of their Sussex titles as Brighton and Hove council is forced into debating a petition.

They will discuss the issue in a meeting next month after a petition was signed by almost 2,000 people.

Campaigner Charles Ross proposed the motion as he claims the titles are “morally wrong and disrespectful to the county of East Sussex”.

The petition says: “We the undersigned petition Brighton & Hove Council to reject the usage of the titles “Duke of Sussex” and “Duchess of Sussex” by the individuals Henry (“Harry”) Windsor and Rachel Meghan Markle as morally wrong and disrespectful to the county of East Sussex.

“As residents of Brighton and Hove we call on Brighton and Hove Council to not refer to these individuals by such titles which we believe to be entirely non democratic and symbolic of the oppression of the general public by the wealthy elite.

“Neither will Brighton Council invite or entertain these individuals nor afford them any hospitality or courtesies above and beyond that of an ordinary member of the public.”

  1. Surely “technically” as a Unitary Authority, Brighton and Hove are independant from Sussex goings on… And why is B&H debating it and not Lewes as the county town of East Sussex or Chichester as county town of West Sussex? Plus as a Royal title it isn’t bestowed by the council’s anyway!!

  2. Its never going to happen! The system is such that the ladder climbers sucking up to ingratiate themselves with the upper echelons will never allow this to happen. It is the carrot on a stick system of reward for loyalty to a grossly overprivileged family.
