The former Suits actress will celebrate her special day on Saturday, August 4, and she is expected to spend it at the wedding of Prince Harry’s friend in Surrey.

Since Meghan has had to close down her social media accounts, it is unlikely it will be revealed exactly how she decides to celebrate her birthday privately, but her first and Royal birthday present has now been disclosed to the public.

Animal rights organisation PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has sent Meghan a vegan leather handbag by sustainable brand Alexandra K.

Elisa Allen, PETA Director, told OK! Online: “PETA believes this animal-friendly bag is absolutely perfect for the Duchess, as she is mostly vegan and cares about animals and the environment- in sharp contrast to the leather industry, which, in partnership with the meat trade, kills over one billion animals every year.

“Chances are that this gorgeous handbag will inspire the Duchess to embrace vegan fashion and leave all animal skins out of her wardrobe, as she’s already done with fur.”

Ms Allen added:“PETA hopes the gift will encourage the Royal Family and its fans alike to embrace compassionate brands like Alexandra K and to steer clear of cruelly obtained animal skins.”

The burgundy bag has a zipped middle section between three compartments and a buckle to keep it secured.

On the front, it features a small gold badge which states: “This bag is animal cruelty free and vegan.”

The gift seems very appropriate for Meghan as it is no secret that the Duchess of Sussex is health conscious and a fan of vegan-friendly products, as she has often spoken out about her diet and fitness.

On her now closed down blog The Tig, the Duchess of Sussex discussed her love of certain foods and how she stays healthy.

She told Best Health in May 2016 that she attempts to eat vegan on certain days.

She said: “When I’m filming, I’m conscious of what I eat.

“I try to eat vegan during the week and then have a little bit more flexibility with what I dig into on the weekends.

”But at the same time, it’s all about balance.”

A source also claimed in April that Meghan is encouraging Harry to eat less meat.

The source told the Mail: “Meghan has completely changed Harry’s diet.

“She’s got him juicing and he has lost at least half a stone, which is a lot for someone as skinny as he is.

“They have bought a top-of-the-range juicer and she has him on fruit and veg smoothies. She’s also weaning him off meat.”
