A royal christening will take place next week, as a nearly three-month old Prince Louis undergoes the important ceremony.

He will be joined by most of the Royal Family, including mother Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, who will be making a rare appearance.

Since giving birth to her son, Kate has stepped out of the public eye to take maternity leave.

The duchess is expected to return to official royal duties after three-months off, after taking a well deserved break.

Where will Prince Louis be christened?

Kensington Palace, official home of Prince William and Kate Middleton, released a statement revealing the time and place of the young prince’s baptism.

He will be christened at the Chapel Royal in the grounds of St James’s Palace, just like his brother George.

The ceremony promises to be an intimate one, with 20-30 people usually attending royal christenings.

The Queen is expected to attend her great-grandson’s christening, despite being taken ill before a recent engagement.

The 92-year-old monarch had to pull out of a St Paul’s service, and Buckingham Palace described her as feeling “under the weather”.

Kensington Palace states that the service will begin at the Chapel Royal on July 9th at 4pm, lasting for around 40 minutes.

Prince Louis will be dressed in the same ceremonial robes as both his brother and sister, due to long-running royal tradition.

It is expected that the Duchess of Cambridge’s family will attend alongside the royals, including pregnant younger sister Pippa and husband James Matthews.

How is the christening different to Princess Charlotte’s baptism?

Princess Charlotte was christened in a different location to both of her brothers, as her baptism took place at the Church of St Mary Magdalene at Sandringham.

The July 2015 ceremony saw a depart from the ordinary, likely due to the location’s place close to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s former Anmer Hall home in Norfolk.

The Church of Saint Mary Magdelene is especially close to Prince William’s heart, as it is where his mother Princess Diana was christened.

On a three-month conservation tour in Africa at the time, uncle Prince Harry was not at his only niece’s baptism.
