Kensington Palace has not confirmed the godparents of Prince Louis – they are likely to be revealed the morning of the christening.

The firm favourites are people who have worked in the royal household.

Miguel Head is one of the leading favourites, at odds of 2/1, he is Prince William’s private secretary, but is leaving his post this month.

Tiggy Legge-Bourke is another contender at odds of 2/1, she initially was an assistant to Charles before becoming a nanny to both William and Harry after Princess Diana’s death.

She left the royal service in 1999, but remained close to the two princes and William is reportedly the godfather to her son, Tom.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s looking increasingly likely the Duke and Duchess will turn to trusted aides over family members and right now the betting suggests Miguel Head is set to be a Godparent to little Louis.”

The next hopeful is Laura Lopes (3/1), daughter of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and Rebecca Priestly (4/1), former private secretary to Kate Middleton.

The odds for the couple choosing Meghan Markle are low at 14/1.

Even thought she is close to the couple, she is unlikely to be picked as godparent.

For one, Prince Harry is not godparent to either Prince George and Princess Charlotte and the royals have typically chosen close friends and former members of staff as godparents for their children.

Zara Tindall, Prince William’s cousin, is the only royal family member who is godparent to Prince George.

Princess Charlotte’s godparents are Laura Fellowes – the daughter of Diana’s sister Lady Jane.

Kate’s cousin, Adam Middleton, the duchess’ friend Sophie Carter and William’s friends, James Meade and Thomas van Straubenzee.

Prince George has seven godparents, Zara Tindall, alongside friends Oliver Barker, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Earl Grosvenor, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerson, Julia Samuel and William van Cutsem.

Prince Louis will be baptised at the Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace on Monday, July 9.

The ceremony will be carried out by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby.
