A gallery full of people gasped in court on Wednesday as video showing the moment Kate Steinle was fatally shot by a homeless illegal immigrant was played during an officer’s testimony.
The third day in the trial of Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, who’s charged with killing Steinle on July 1, 2015 on Pier 14 in San Francisco, featured testimony from officers who were at the crime scene, during one of which the dramatic video was played.
San Francisco Police Department Officer Craig Dong was the final witness of the day. Dong is an investigator who was at the scene and has a background in analyzing film/tv and video forensics.
During his testimony, video provided to him that was shot from a distance was played for the jury, which showed Steinle get shot, the suspect walking away and something splashing in the water.
