Mr Markle has conducted two interviews with the British press in recent weeks, one with The Sun and another with Good Morning Britain, following staged press photographs before the May wedding.
Mr Markle has allegedly had little contact with his daughter or the Royal Family since then.
He told TMZ: “I was silent for a full year.
“I gave another interview to break the silence.”
The Duchess of Sussex’s father added: “I’m enjoying the fact that I can make the entire Royal Family not speak.
“Maybe I can get a laugh out of the Duchess.”
The Royal Family – especially the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – are supposedly unhappy with Mr Markle’s media interactions.
A source told Entertainment Tonight Harry and Meghan “are frustrated he keeps speaking to the tabloids and taking payment for interviews.”
Mr Markle did not attend the Royal Wedding earlier this year, citing heart problems which made it impossible for him to travel.
At the time, Kensington Palace released a statement saying: “Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding.
“I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health.
“I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support.
“Please know how much Harry and I look forward to sharing our special day with you.”
On the day of the wedding, Mr Markle told TMZ: “My baby looks very beautiful and she looks happy.
“I wish I were there and I wish them all my love and happiness.”
The Duchess was instead walked down the aisle by her father in law, Prince Charles.
