The Duchess was obliged to renounce many freedoms she enjoyed in her former life upon entering the Royal family, including her booming Instagram account, her leading role in the hit TV series Suits, and her burgeoning lifestyle blog, The Tig.

The in-demand Royal has even reportedly been forced to restrict her friendship group, after former acquaintance and reality TV star Millie Mackintosh was not invited to the Royal Wedding in May.

Yet despite adapting her wardrobe to suit her endless series of Royal engagements, the young Duchess has not lost her effortless sense of style.

Caroline Castigliano, bridal couture designer, said: “I don’t think she has lost her sense of style, I think she is in a very difficult place, she has got to show her total respect of the Royal Family and the family she is part of and married into, and so it is such a new learning curve as how to actually achieve that.

“She has a sense of style that was developed, as a young, beautiful actress in a highly successful television series, going everywhere looking super glamorous, but in a style that wouldn’t suit official outings as a member of the Royal Family.”

The Duchess most recently wore a cutting-edge sleeveless trench-coat dress by designer House of Nonie to the Nelson Mandela Centenary exhibition, showing off her edgy sense of style.

House of Nonie commented on the design on Instagram, writing: “What an amazing day for us.

“The stunning Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle in our sleeveless trench dress.

“Thank you Jessica Mulroney.”

Meghan’s individual sense of style is due in part to her friend and stylist Jessica Mulroney, who has worked with the Duchess for numerous years since her time starring on Suits.

Ms Mulroney attended the Royal Wedding in May, and flew to London for numerous fittings ahead of the big day.

Her children also served as bridesmaids and pageboys during the ceremony itself in St George’s Chapel.

In recent weeks, the Duchess caused a stir after wearing a canary yellow Brandon Maxell dress to the ‘Your Commonwealth’ Youth Challenge reception at London’s Marlborough House.

She paired the look with nude Manolo Blahnik pumps to add a sophisticated edge to the look, which marked a departure from the more demure designs she wore in the days following her wedding.

She was also spotted wearing a bright blue and white stripped Ralph Lauren shirt to the Ladies’ singles final at Wimbledon last week.

Ms Castigliano noted Megan’s style will become increasingly distinctive with time, as the young Royal manages to strike the right balance between formal and distinctive designs.

She said: “I think after a year, after she has found her feet, so to speak, she will find a way to develop a Meghan style, with protocol, the two will come together.

“In the second year, you will start to see a slightly different slant on things.”
