Mondanile parted ways with the New Jersey band in May 2016 following “allegations of unacceptable treatment of women”
Real Estate‘s former guitarist Matt Mondanile has denied allegations of sexual misconduct.
The New Jersey indie band parted ways with Mondanile (also known for his solo project Ducktails) in May 2016, with a statement at the time suggesting that Mondanile was “focusing on his own Ducktails project”.
However, when allegations surfaced last week, Mondanile’s former band released a new statement saying that they “fired” the guitarist due to his alleged “unacceptable treatment of women”.
SPIN has since published a detailed account of multiple women alleging that Mondanile had been sexually inappropriate towards them.
Mondanile has not yet issued a public statement but told Pitchfork last Friday (October 13): “There’s nothing I can tell you other than that I’ve done nothing wrong at all. There’s nothing to find out about me at all.” Asked whether any women would come forward with claims that he had been sexually inappropriate, Mondanile reportedly replied: “No. Not at all. No way. There’s nothing like that.”

Real Estate’s recent statement about Mondanile’s departure read: “Matt Mondanile was fired in February 2016 when allegations of unacceptable treatment of women were brought to our attention. While we urged him to seek counseling at the time of termination, we are no longer in contact. We feel that any abuse of one’s power or status to victimise another is completely unacceptable. We applaud the courage of the women who came forward to make us aware so that we could address the issue head on.”
Since his departure from Real Estate, Mondanile has also parted ways with their label Domino, releasing his most recent Ducktails album ‘Jersey Devil’ on his own New Images imprint.
