New coronavirus cases in the Netherlands have risen by more than 9,000 in the last 24 hours – the highest figure since October, according to data today.
The infection rate in the country has been steadily rising in the past week, after having declined from a peak of around 11,000 at the end of October.
Under the country’s ‘partial lockdown’, which has been in effect since October 13, there is a ban on public gatherings while people are encouraged to work from home where they can.
It comes in the same week that the Dutch government announced that international arrivals who are not on the EU “safe countries of origin list” or exempt from its travel ban will be forbidden from entering the Netherlands without a negative Covid-19 test result from next Tuesday onward.
