Octopuses have emerged in a search for a new tasty and nutritious food source. Live Science reported that octopuses have the potential to make an ideal mass-produced food for many hungry people. Octopuses grow very quickly and have lots of tasty flesh. They are found all over the world. As the world’s supply of fish diminishes while nevertheless the number of people keeps increasing octopuses have emerged as a possible ideal new food source.

The main problem that has prevented octopus farming at large scale is that the common octopus known as Octopus vulgaris is hard to feed in captivity, particularly when first born. Farmed octopus hasn’t had much commercial success yet. However, the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) has carried out important and successful research aimed at overcoming the problems with octopus cultivation. Once the problem of feeding small octopuses in large numbers is solved the development of a full undersea octopus farming industry will be much easier.
