Meghan turned heads as she wore a denim dress with deep pockets by Carolina Herrera as she watched her husband take part in the Sentebale Polo in Windsor last week.
She also wore a pale pink wrap dress with pockets when she visited the Nelson Mandela Centenary Exhibition in London earlier in the month.
When the Duchess of Sussex arrived at Dublin Airport for her visit to Ireland on July 10, she was wearing a dark green dress with pockets again.
Eagle-eyed fans have noticed a recurring theme in Meghan’s outfits.
But why does the Duchess wear dresses with pockets?
Dr Carolyn Harris, a Royal historian based in Toronto, Canada, told Express.co.uk that Meghan’s fashion choices could be hiding a deliberate underlying message.
She said that during the 1950s, women’s clothing traditionally used pockets for decoration, rather than functionality.
But Meghan could be trying to change this attitude by showing that pockets have more purpose these days.
Dr Harris explained: “Today, there is increased demand for functional pockets in women’s clothes today as women also would like to be able to carry their phone or keys or other items in their pockets and not always have to rely on handbags.
“By wearing dresses with pockets frequently, the Duchess of Sussex may be exerting subtle pressure on the fashion industry to create more dresses with pockets, allowing women to have the option of fashion that is functional as well as decorative.”
Dr Harris added the Duchess of Sussex is not the only member of the royal family to wear dresses with pockets.
The Duchess of Cambridge also wore a dress with pockets at a reception in Victoria, Canada in 2016.
The Royals are not expected to be seen much beforehand though, as they will be having a break from their duties during August.
Meghan will be celebrating her 37th birthday this Saturday.
She will spend the day attending the wedding of Prince Harry’s friend Charlie van Straubenzee, in Surrey.
