Both of the young royals struggled to hold onto their flamboyant hats as they took part in the traditional royal cariage procession when there were some gusty winds to contest with.

Princess Beatrice was wearing a black and white Jonathan Simkhai dress and a hat by Sally-Ann Proven and bride-to-be Eugenie was wearing a blue, floral outfit by Erdem.

The Queen’s pink attire and hat meant that punters had correctly guessed the colour of the monarch’s hat for the third day running, which is a traditional bet at the equestrian event.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, was dressed in a feathery purple hat, to lead the presentation to jockey Ryan Moore for his 50th Ascot win.

Princess Anne was seen speaking to the jockey after his impressive win – the Queen’s daughter went for a turquoise ensemble with a feathered hat.

The Duchess of Gloucester who was wearing a big green hat and the Countess of Snowdon, Serena Armstrong-Jones, also took part in the royal procession.

When the royals stepped from their carriages, one footman had to gather himself after he briefly took a tumble.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said the colour pink had been its 5-4 favourite for the Queen today, adding: “Punters have scored a hat-trick at Ascot after correctly predicting the Queen’s hat colour for the first three days.

The Queen’s A-line coat was made by Stewart Parvin, her silk dress was in shades o lilac and pink and her hat was by Rachel Trevor-Morgan.

The five-day event is one of the highlights of the queen’s racing calendar and the Queen’s diary.

Racegoers enjoyed showing off their head gear, which went from hats of jungle scenes to even a lobster on their heads.

Earlier this week Meghan Markle made her debut at the races in a sophisticated Givenchy dress.
