The Queen’s husband, Philip officially retired from royal duties on August 2, 2017 after more than 65 years in service.

And while the Duke of Edinburgh has not been seen at as many public engagements the 97-year-old has still been out and about.

Philip was last seen in public as he accompanied the Queen for the Royal Windsor Cup polo match in Egham last month.

Prior to that, he joined the Queen for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Royal Wedding on May 19.

The Duke has been repeatedly pictured taking the reins of a horse and carriage on the grounds of Windsor Castle at various times throughout the year.

However just weeks after the operation the robust royal was seen making the Queen smile as he attended the third day of the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

Following the surgery Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “The Duke of Edinburgh has undergone a successful hip replacement operation. He is progressing satisfactorily at this early stage.

“His Royal Highness is likely to remain in hospital for several days. He is comfortable and in good spirits.”

Philip appeared a little frail at the Royal Wedding of his grandson Prince Harry to Meghan on May 19.

Despite looking feeble, the Duke walked on his own behind the Queen who wore a delicately flared green and purple outfit.

According to royal protocol no one must walk in front of the Queen as Her Majesty must be first.

In February Philip greeted hundreds of well-wishers in West Newton as he attend a church service with the Queen in Norfolk.

Philip is the longest-serving consort of a reigning British monarch and the oldest-ever male member of the Royal Family.

On June 10 the Duke of Edinburgh celebrated his 97th birthday.

The Duke of Edinburgh completed 22,219 solo engagements and gave 5,496 speeches after the Queen’s accession to the throne in 1952.

When he retired on August 2, 2017, he quipped that he was “the world’s most experienced plaque-unveiler.”
