The event will bring together children with “exceptional health needs”, their parents, carers and a number of celebrity supporters.

It will be held at the prestigious Royal Lancaster Hotel in central London.

Awards will be handed out to both young people overcoming medical difficulties and to medical professionals.

Prince Harry has been patron of WellChild since 2007, and enjoys close relations with the charity.

He regularly plays a part in its annual awards and has welcomed both children it is assisting and their families to Buckingham Palace.

Meghan and Prince Harry will attend a pre-ceremony reception, during which they will meet all the winners and, in the case of the children, their families.

Prince Harry is due to deliver a speech and will also handover an award.

The winners of the awards have already been announced.

They include Matilda Booth, a seven-year-old from West Yorkshire who is paralysed from the chest down due to a spinal defect.

To try and improve her condition she has endured over 40 different operations.

WellChild have praised Ms Booth for her “courage, strength and determination” and “great zeal for life”.

Another child who will be receiving a reward is Mckenzie Brackley from Fife who suffers from flaccid paralysis, a condition which affects speech and the ability to eat and drink.

WellChild noted: “Despite his own problems Mckenzie cheers up everybody when they are low, and is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.”

So important is the charity to Prince Harry, five nurses were selected by WellChild to attend the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan on May 19.

Charity chief executive Colin Dyer also attended.

She told Gloucestershire Live: “For me it sums up how Prince Harry works.

“A day that is so special to him he will make it have a positive impact on so many people.

“He’s just like a normal everyday person.”
