The women’s singles final has been postponed by more than an hour as the men’s singles semi-final between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic has come down to the wire.

The Duchess of Sussex and Kate arrived at Wimbledon this afternoon for a girls’ day out to watch Meghan’s friend Serena Williams play the women’s singles final against Germany’s Angelique Kerber.

Meghan and Kate were seen giggling and smiling as they patiently waited for the match to start.

They can be seen chatting and laughing with each other.

Meghan eventually put her sunglasses on.

This is the pair’s first engagement together, without their husbands Prince Harry and Prince William. 

Before they made their way to the court, Meghan and Kate met some of the Championships’ ball boys and ball girls, and junior players.

The Duchess of Sussex spoke to the girl who has the big responsibility of performing the coin toss before the ladies’ singles final between Serena Williams and Germany’ s Angelique Kerber.

The 11-year-old said the was both and excited to meet the royals.

Tia Carter said: “Meghan asked how old I was, and what I was doing today. I told her I will be performing the coin toss and she said ‘so I will be seeing you later’.”

The pair also met with former Wimbledon Ladies Champions during a lunch before the final starts.

This girls’ day out  is one of a handful of instances Kate, who gave birth to Prince Louis just 12 weeks ago, will break her maternity leave agreement.

The mother-of-three will also be attending the men’s singles the day after with husband Prince William.

For Meghan this comes days after her two-day tour of Ireland, which was her first tour out the UK with her new husband Prince Harry.

While Meghan attended Wimbledon two years ago as a guest of Ralph Lauren, she has not yet made an appearance in the royal box this year.

Meghan and Kate are joined by the Chairman of the AELTC Philip Brook and his wife Gill. 

The pair are waiting to watch Meghan’s friend Willams go for her eighth singles title against Germany’s Angelique Kerber.

It comes almost two months after she was at Prince Harry and Meghan’s Royal Wedding in Windsor with her husband Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian.

Williams gave birth 10 months ago and is the first mother to reach the last round of the tournament since Australian Evonne Goolagong in 1980.
