Prince William, second-in-line to the throne, is set to have a huge coronation ceremony when his time to become the UK’s next monarch comes.

And his wife Kate will also be celebrated in her new role.

But she will be crowned in a less majestic ceremony than the one planned for the new King, according to the Royal Family’s website.

The Royal Family’s official website states: “Unless decided otherwise, a Queen consort is crowned with the King, in a similar but simpler ceremony.”

The coronation ceremony is described by the website as a “solemn religious ceremony” which has remained almost unvaried over a thousand years.

It usually takes place some months after the new monarch’s accession, which comes at the end of the mourning period honouring the previous head of state.

This grand ceremony is attended by representatives of the Houses of Parliament, Church and State.

And prime ministers and leading citizens from the Commonwealth and other countries also attend.

Following the death of the Queen, Prince Charles will ascend to the throne.

While it is uncertain which title his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, will adopt, royal experts believe William will get his father’s current title of Prince of Wales, while Kate will be the new Princess of Wales.

The Duchess of Cambridge will inherit the title directly from her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, who died in a car accident 21 years ago, on August 31 1997.

But Kate has already inherited something more material than a title from Diana.

According to the People’s Princess’s “letter of wish” attached to her will, her jewellery collection went entirely to her sons.

In the letter, Princess Diana wrote: “I would like you to divide my personal chattels at your discretion between my sons and godchildren, the division being three quarters to my sons and one quarter to my godchildren.

“But I would like you to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it.

“I leave the exact division of the jewellery to your discretion.”

William proposed to Kate using the iconic sapphire ring his father also gave an engagement ring to Diana.

Throughout the years, Kate has also been spotted wearing Diana’s Lover’s Knot Tiara, a splendid jewel made with diamonds and pearls, and sapphire earrings.
