A couple’s laundry room debate has spilt over onto the internet, prompting thousands of people to comment on one of the most tedious adulting topics ever discussed: towels.
Photographer and podcast host Abdul Dremali asked for help on Twitter this week, calling for opinions on “what is the correct amount of towels to own”.
According to Abdul, his girlfriend Anna wasn’t impressed when he suggested it was totally fine for an adult to possess a maximum of 10 towels.
“I said 10 and she looked at me like I was crazy,” Abdul said.
“We have zero frame of reference on the appropriate amount of towels in a household of two.”
But if Abdul thought this innocent question about the contents of his linen cupboard would elicit a response from two, maybe three, of his followers, he had another thing coming.
What followed was a viral flood of responses from people weighing in on possibly the most boring topic in existence.
People contributed to this debate in a major way, with one woman saying there was simply no such thing as too many towels.
Adbul’s tweet also sparked a huge number of sub threads, as people proposed something, and a string of people splintered off to dissect it further.
New York Magazine reporter Yashar Ali offered his person opinion, claiming the minimum number of towels a couple should own is 50, “preferably more”.
That’s a lot of towels.
That tweet alone sparked more than 10,000 likes and 1000 retweets.
It also caught the attention of Chrissy Teigan, who told Yashar off for essentially hoarding wash cloths.
She then asked Yashar when his birthday so she could send him a washing machine.
