A HUSBAND posed for a smiling clifftop selfie with his pregnant wife just moments before he allegedly threw her to her death.
According to a report in Mirror Online, the man allegedly committed the act to claim life insurance money.
Hakan Aysal, 40, was arrested for the murder of his seven-months pregnant wife Semra Aysal, 32, and their unborn baby while they were on a holiday in Mugla, Turkey in 2018.
Shortly before the wife was killed in this gruesome ‘accident’, the man had taken out a personal accident insurance on behalf of his wife with a guarantee of 400,000 Turkish Lira (about Dh208,000) and where he was the sole beneficiary.
Soon after the incident, Aysal had claimed for the insurance payout, but it was turned down as the investigations unveiled the crime.
According to the report, prosecutors said that the only reason the couple sat on top of the cliff for three hours was to give the man time to make sure that no one was around before he could push her down the cliff.
A Turkish court ruled that Aysal should be remanded to custody for premeditated murder.
Aysal was quoted as denying the charges according to the report. “After taking a photo, my wife put the phone in her bag. Later she asked me to give her the phone. I got up and then heard my wife scream behind me when I walked a few steps away to get the phone from her bag. When I turned back, she was not there. I did not push my wife,” he said.
Investigations into the case continue.
