Supermarket shoppers hoping to settle down for a delicious turkey dinner have blasted some stores over “rotten” birds.

Customers hoping to sit down and enjoy their roast turkey on December 25 were left fuming.

Aldi, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco all felt the wrath of angry social media users on Christmas Day.

Some even went as far on social media to suggest their Christmas Day had been “ruined” by the state of their meal centrepieces.

Turkey is a Christmas classic – and is routinely served by those in Bristol (and wider, obviously) accompanied by all the festive trimmings.

But some were left livid at the state of the turkeys they were delivered and purchased from some of the nation’s biggest companies.

Tesco – Britain’s biggest grocer – was one such firm to feel the anger of Twitter.

@BubblyNatz said: “@Tesco Thanks Tesco. Best Christmas ever with a mouldy turkey!!! Absolutely disgusted.”

Another, directing a tweet at Sainsbury’s, fumed: “@sainsburys Great thing to discover at 9.45pm on Christmas Eve, the Turkey that was best before 27th Dec, turns out to not even be best before the 24th. #MouldyTurkey”.

While another kicked off: “No Christmas turkey for the family, the one we bought from Chester @SainsburysNews @sainsburys is clearly rancid – any ideas? Have family of 6 to feed? @SainsburysMag”.

And another fumed: “Thanks to @Morrisons our family Christmas dinner is ruined.

“Stinky, green, rotten turkey crowns is not what I expected to pay over £40 for. Disgusted is an understatement! #notahappychristmas”.

While another tweeted:”just gone to get our turkey out to cook to find it slimy and going mouldy! Thank you for ruining our Christmas Aldi…
