Six miles of congestion after multi-vehicle crash on M6, Report

The M6 had to be closed this morning following a multi-vehicle crash southbound between J23 Haydock Island and J22 Warrington North.

Highways England said in a tweet “The #M6 southbound #J23 (#HaydockIsland #A580) to #J22 (#WarringtonNorth #A49) traffic has been temporarily STOPPED due to a collision. Traffic Officers are currently at the scene.”

They later confirmed fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene of the “multi-vehicle collision”.

One person was taken to hospital but North West Ambulance Service said there “is nothing to suggest” the injuries were serious.

There were huge queues with around six miles of tailbacks and hour delays.

The closures were lifted around 8.40am – around an hour after the accident.
