Unrelenting weather conditions brought on by Storm Callum has made flying in and out of the country a very risky business.

Extreme crosswinds over the weekend battered the South West causing terrifying scenes at Bristol Airport as planes came in to land.

Dozens of clips emerged from plane spotters who captured the dicey landing attempts with many crews abandoning landing just metres above the runway. A truly hair-raising experience for any passenger.

However, in one video a daring pilot who managed an expert landing on the Bristol runway with their Boeing 757 is shown defying the crosswinds that try and push it off track.

The footage shows the blue and white plane being blown side-to-side before it makes its descent sideway against the powerful gusts of air.

Dangerously strong crosswinds have been a result of Storm Callum, which has brought travel chaos to parts of the UK through unrelenting wind and rain.

“Aircraft need to compensate for the crosswind otherwise they will be blown off course,” explained Mraviationguy, a UK based YouTuber who regularly films aviation videos.

“They do this by pointing their nose into the direction the wind is coming from, demonstrated perfectly by this crew.

“It is always fascinating to watch planes landing in strong crosswinds and it is fantastic to see such amazing skill by the pilots.”
