As the corruption and bribery trial continues in New Jersey, Sen. Bob Menendez is getting a little help from his friends.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. arrived at the Newark courthouse Thursday morning to testify as a “character witness” for the Democratic senator, Graham’s office confirmed. He will testify about his experiences with Menendez in the Senate, “unrelated to the underlying charges,” his office said.

Sen. Corey Booker, D-N.J., has also appeared in support of Menendez, who is accused of accepting donations, trips and gifts from an eye doctor friend in exchange for pressuring government officials to act in ways that would be beneficial to that friend’s business interests.

Menendez has maintained his innocence, and his defense unsuccessfully attempted to persuade U.S. District Judge William Walls to dismiss the case based on a 2016 Supreme Court ruling which outlined a stricter definition of what an “official act” is.
