Serena Williams has revealed how Meghan Markle travelled to New York in September with her then four-month-old son Archie Harrison – to watch her play in the US open.
It was widely assumed that Meghan left Archie with Prince Harry when she flew out to the US Open.
Mrs Williams said Meghan flew back to the UK straight after watching Ms Williams lose to Bianca Andreescu in the final.
She told Access Hollywood: “She flew all the way with a newborn to see me play in New York and flew all the way back that night, and I probably couldn’t have done that.
“I think it’s really cool to have a group of friends who are doing amazing things and face the same pressures you face with being in the public eye.”
Mrs Williams praised Meghan over how she has dealt with the intense scrutiny that comes with being a member of the royal family.
Meghan hugged the player’s husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, as they arrived to watch Mrs Williams take on 19-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu in the women’s singles at Flushing Meadows.
The victory for Serena would have been her first Grand Slam since giving birth to daughter Alexis in September 2017.
The Duchess looked relaxed in a denim dress with a grey jacket over her shoulders and sunglasses hooked into her neckline when she attended the event, but Archie was not present at the courts.
