The commissioner of London’s Metropolitan Police says the extremely close relationship between her department and the New York Police Department is vital to keeping people safe in a time of global terrorism threats.

Commissioner Cressida (KREHS’-ih-duh) Dick is in the United States on her first official trip since being appointed to lead the department earlier this year. She met with NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill on Thursday.

Dick says the two police departments “support each other very closely” and work together regularly. The NYPD has officers based in London and other countries, and the Met Police has 80 officers working overseas.

Dick says she’s impressed by the NYPD’s use of data and technology.

O’Neill was recently in London and says he’s interested in London’s community policing efforts.
