Lady Gaga has capped her awards season in the extremely glam fashion we were hoping for, as she wore the Tiffany Diamond to the Academy Awards. The A Star Is Born actress and singer—nominated tonight for best actress and best original song (for “Shallow,” as if we had to remind you)—made a later appearance on the red carpet Sunday before the show began.
This diamond does not make it out for events very often, to put it mildly: this is only the third time it has been worn in its 142-year history. The 128.54-carat sparkler was worn first by Mrs. Sheldon Whitehouse, at the 1957 Tiffany Ball, and then by Audrey Hepburn, for promotional photographs for Breakfast at Tiffany’s in 1961.
Gaga—who will be performing this evening, along with co-star Bradley Cooper, as well—made the jewelry the main event, as she wore a black Alexander McQueen dress that, by Gaga standards, is a somewhat understated choice. She matched the dress with long black gloves and wore her hair swept up.
The look—formal, somewhat old Hollywood in vibe—is aligned with the aesthetic Gaga has gone with at previous awards shows this season, at the SAG Awards and Golden Globes. For the Grammys several weeks ago, Gaga wore a shimmering, sleek Celine dress, a fizzier selection than the others.
