Jennifer Lopez has been accused of copying Beyonce following her performance at the American Music Awards.
Lopez performed a duet with Colombian singer Maluma at the awards ceremony on Sunday (22 November).
Fans, however, were quick to point out similarities to Beyonce’s 2014 Grammys performance of her hit song “Drunk in Love” with her husband rapper Jay Z.
Users on social media posted side-by-side images of the two in order to highlight the likeness between the performances.
It seems one scene in particular – which sees Lopez dancing around a chair in black, blue and red lighting – has attracted the most scepticism.
Instagram account Diet Prada, a profile that publicises poor behaviour in the fashion and entertainment industry, called out Lopez in a post that has since received nearly 43,000 likes.
They wrote: “Love J Lo, but between the wet bob, chair dancing, black sheer bodysuit, and lighting design, someone should’ve flagged this.
“In the words of Beyonce… ‘somebody’s gettin’ fired!’ lol.”
One user commented: “I’m all for a bit of inspiration as no idea is original Beyonce was probably inspired by someone before her but this was a little bit too spot on.”
On Twitter, others echoed the same sentiment. One user wrote: “Now why did J Lo steal Beyonce’s whole thing like that?” Another fan jokingly suggested that Beyonce take legal action, writing: “I’m sorry but Queen B has to sue.”
