Sammy Hagar has ruled out a reunion with Van Halen because brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen are no longer interested in becoming his friend.

The frosty relationship between the former bandmates appeared to thaw earlier this year as Sammy wished Eddie a happy birthday on social media, raising fans’ hopes of a tour with both Van Halen singers – Hagar and David Lee Roth.

But the Why Can’t This Be Love singer fears too much time has passed and now he’s officially shutting down talk of a get together.

“People say, ‘What’s going on with Van Halen?’ OK, absolutely nothing,” he said on satellite radio show Trunk Nation… I haven’t heard from the guys.

“To me, they made a real strong statement by not wishing me a happy birthday for my 70th. Especially amongst the fact that so many people have died. I mean, a week before that Tom Petty died. Tom Petty’s birthday was the next Thursday after mine, and he was still a young man, as far as I’m concerned.”

“With all them people dying, if somebody turns 70, that’s a monumental thing,” Sammy added. “It’s, like, you would think if they ever wanted to be friends, it would be so easy. And even if they didn’t wanna be friends, it’s just something that would be the right thing to do.”

Hagar is also upset with his former bandmates for not reaching out to their ex-bass player Michael Anthony after he lost his two-week-old grandson to heart disease in April.

“Even Dave (Lee Roth) said ‘I’m sorry’ to Mike. And, you know, Dave’s not the friendliest guy in the world. But at least he had the class to do that…

“I don’t know what’s wrong with those two brothers, man. For them not to do anything for it (the death of Anthony’s grandson), and then again on my birthday… People keep bringing it up: ‘Oh, you must have heard from the brothers. Did Eddie wish you…?’ No.

“All that says to me is that it’s over, man. Those guys do not want to be friends.”
