Hollywood royalty George Clooney has some very kind words for real royalty, aka his friends Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Clooney and his wife’s friendship with the duo may fly under the radar, but they have a close connection with the Brits. The actor and attorney recently attended a reception at Buckingham Palace with Harry’s dad, Prince Charles. And Amal reportedly helped plan Meghan’s amazing New York City baby shower. And, of course, who can forget Amal’s stunning yellow dress at the royal wedding last spring?
From the sound of it, the two couples have spent plenty of quality time together over the past year—talk about a perfect double date—and Clooney recently shared some insight into the royal pair on Good Morning Britain. He [described](the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as “fun” and a “really wonderful, loving couple” per People.
Clooney, who has long been vocal about celebrity mistreatment by the tabloids and the paparazzi, also spoke about the press treatment of Markle since she married into the royal family. “I think it’s a little unfair at times when—I’ve seen it when the press can turn on you for sort of ridiculous reasons and for almost nothing, and it seemed to me to be a little unjust since [Meghan] hadn’t done anything except just happen to live her life,” he said. “She’s a really kind and smart and intelligent young woman.”
This isn’t the first time Clooney has defended Markle. “They’re just chasing Meghan Markle everywhere, she’s been pursued and vilified,” Clooney told reporters at a press panel last month. “She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was and it’s history repeating itself.”
And while Clooney has denied reports he’ll be their baby’s godfather, we’re still pulling for it. Baby Sussex would surely benefit from a friend like him.
