Medical detection dogs trained to sniff out cancer, Parkinsons and low blood pressure are now also being trained – to sniff out symptoms of CORONAVIRUS.
The dogs are already trained to smell subtle changes in the temperature of a person’s skin to indicate when they have a fever, and can also recognise the ‘odour’ of bacterial infections.
But now, the charity Medical Detection Dogs, based in Milton Keynes, Bucks., will be training the same dogs to detect the odour of the Covid-19 virus.
The charity are already looking into ways that they can safely “catch” the odour of the virus from patients, and present it to the dogs.
