Nearly 5,000 cases of coronavirus have been recorded today, taking the total number of UK infections past the 400,000 mark, as another 37 people died.
As of 9am on Tuesday, the Government said that the total number of cases now stand at 403,551.
It comes as a further 4,926 cases of coronavirus in the UK have been lab-confirmed. This is the highest daily jump since May 7.
The Government’s official figures also show a further 37 people died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday.
This brings the UK total to 41,825.
Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 57,500 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
The figures differ from those released individually by devolved authorities.
Confirmed coronavirus cases in Scotland have risen by 383 in the past 24 hours, the Scottish Government said on Tuesday.
A total of 25,009 people have now tested positive in Scotland.
This is 7.6 per cent of newly-tested individuals, up from 6.3 per cent on Monday.
