The first consignment of a Covid-19 vaccine approved for public use reached the UK on December 3 and vaccinations begun on December 8.
One million doses of Pfizer and BioNTech’s jab were reported to have been delivered to a secure Public Health England depot, where they will undergo further checks before being delivered to 50 designated hospital hubs across the four nations.
The first vaccine was administered to a 90-year-old grandmother from Coventry, Margaret Keenan, marking the start of an historic mass vaccination programme.
William Shakespeare, 81, was the second person to be vaccinated in Coventry and Michael Tibbs, 99, is the first person in the South West to receive the vaccine at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.
