The UK coronavirus death toll in UK hospitals has dropped to its lowest total in seven weeks at 223.

England reported 204 new deaths, Scotland had five and Wales recorded 14.

A further 14 people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in Wales, taking the total number of deaths to 997, Public Health Wales has said.

Another 195 people have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 10,524.

The figures represent the lowest number of hospital deaths since the end of March – on March 29, the Department of Health recorded 214 fatalities connected to Covid-19.

A total of 1,576 patients have died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus, up by five from 1,571 on Sunday, Nicola Sturgeon said.

The First Minister said 12,226 people have now tested positive for the virus in Scotland, up by 169 from 12,097 the day before.
