Daily physical activity has a significant link to vascular health

More research than ever has been highlighting the vital importance of physical activity for good health. The University of Missouri School of Medicine reported that researchers have found a significant link between daily physical activity and vascular health. It has been observed that just a few days of inactivity can decrease function in some blood vessels.

Research from the University of Missouri School of Medicine has showed just how important earnest, daily physical activity is for your health. The researchers have observed that decreasing daily physical activity for just a few days leads to decreases in the function of the inner lining of blood vessels which are located in the legs of young, healthy subjects, This can lead to vascular dysfunction which can have prolonged effects.

The researchers have also found that the vascular dysfunction which is induced by five days of inactivity needs greater than one day of returning to physical activity and takes at least 10,000 steps a day in order to improve. Paul Fadel, an associate professor of medical pharmacology and physiology, says it is known that the negative consequences which result from not engaging in physical activity can be reversed. Fadel says data indicates at any stage of a disease process and at any time in your life if you get active you can prolong your life.

However, just skipping five days of physical activity can result in damage to blood vessels in the legs which can take awhile to repair. Fadel points out that inactivity is generally going to lead to people becoming overweight and obese. Insulin resistance than occurs which leads to Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states greater than 29 million Americans have diabetes and that number is expected to increase. Fadel says the best treatment for this problem is to become more active.

This research has been published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. The conclusion from this study is clearly that daily exercise is vitally important for good health. If you fall out of shape it’s important to make a firm commitment to getting back in shape as soon as possible.
