The Duke of Cambridge became the first Royal ever to travel on an official business trip to Israel and Palestinian Territories.
A Palace source confirmed the Prince is determined to bring peace to the Middle East.
According to the Sunday Mirror, the source claimed William told aides: “This is the start of something new.
“I will forever honour my commitments to the people I have met.”
The Prince is believed to have been so touched by the stories of those he met that he personally rewrote half of his official speech to reflect his own feelings.
An insider added: “The politicians who affect this younger generation’s lives may only be in office for five, 10 or 20 years – but William knows his duty is for life.”
But Royal tradition states that Prince William should stay neutral as opposed to becoming involved with politics at home or overseas.
However, sources have admitted William wants to play a significant role in bringing “peace and prosperity” to the Middle East and hopes to use his global influence to bring good to the region.
Prince William visited the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Wednesday, meeting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Duke of Cambridge described his trip to the West Bank as a “very powerful one” during a speech at the British Consulate General in Jerusalem.
He assured Palestinians “you have not been forgotten”.
The Duke also had meetings with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu along with his wife Sara in Jerusalem.
Hopes of peace between Israel and Palestine plummeted in 2014 and the Duke of Cambridge’s historic visit comes just months after dozens of Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces during protests at the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip.
But in the wake of rising levels of violence between the two sides, it was the Royal Highnesses own decision to give speeches to both sides and delivered the same message: “Never has hope and reconciliation been more needed.”
Mr Rivlin shocked the world when he asked the Prince to deliver a message of peace to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas when he crossed over the border.
The Royal is understood to have told aides he intends to “do what is right”.
A Royal source said: “The visit had a profound effect on the Duke.
“The places he visited, the people he met and the stories he heard have all moved him very deeply.
“He spoke at length to his advisors of how the young people affected by the region’s troubles need hope in order to be able to look forward to a brighter future. William is a young, intelligent man who is very in tune with the politics of the world.
“No one will forget when he told the Palestinian people they have ‘not been forgotten’.
“He has often thought about his mother’s legacy and hopes his efforts will now lead a new chapter for future generations to enjoy.”
