The Duke and Duchess will go on a two-day visit to the Irish city on July 10 and 11 as requested by the Government.

Kensington Palace said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will visit Dublin, Ireland on 10th & 11th July. The visit is at the request of Her Majesty’s Government.

“They are looking forward to learning more about Ireland’s history and experiencing its rich culture, as well as meeting the people who are shaping the country’s future.”

UK-Irish relations are currently strained as Brexit talks continue over the Northern Ireland border issue.

The visit will be the first official engagement Meghan and Harry have carried out since they tied the knot for the Royal Wedding last month.

The couple will visit the capital’s university, Trinity College, and will meet Michael D Higgins at Aras an Uachtaráin, as well as a trip to Dublin’s Guinness Storehouse, according to the Irish Mirror.

The news comes after Meghan’s father Thomas Markle revealed Prince Harry’s views on Britain’s Brexit in an explosive interview with ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

He said of the prince: “We are yet to see each other face to face, but we’ve had interesting conversations over the phone.

“He’s an interesting guy. We’ve talked a few times about Brexit and Donald Trump.”

Mr Markle also revealed how Prince Harry could be “open to the experiment of Brexit” as he discussed the UK’s decision to leave the EU with his son-in-law.

When pushed by the presenter about what Prince Harry had said about Brexit, Mr Markle described the chat as a “loose conversation”.

The Duchess of Sussex’s father said that the pair had: “a loose conversation about something we have to try. There’s no real commitment to it”.
