The 92 year old monarch has so far had a busy week in the Scottish capital after she accepted the keys to Palace of Holyroodhouse, also known as Jolyrood Palace, in an official ceremony on Monday.

Last night the Queen hosted a recepition at the Palace to celebrate Edinburgh’s 603 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force after they were honoured with the Freedom of The City of Edinburgh.

Today Her Majesty was out and about again as she gave an audience to the First Minister of Scotland just days after she was forced to pull out of an engagement due to an illness.

The Queen dressed in a white dress with summery blue flowers was pictured welcoming Ms Sturgeon before the pair engaged in a private chat.

Her Majesty has weekly meetings with Prime Minister Theresa May, so today’s meeting will be a chance for Ms Sturgeon, who dressed in a red jacket and black skirt for the occasion, to share her thought with the monarch.

On Monday the 92-year-old monarch beamed as she attended the ancient Ceremony of the Keys event in Edinburgh.

The event marked the beginning of Holyrood Week, when the Queen will visit various regions in Scotland and meet royal supporters at Holyrood Palace.

Edinburgh Lord Provost Frank Ross offered Her Majesty the keys to the city, which the Queen must return, entrusting their safekeeping to Edinburgh’s elected officials.

The ceremony of the keys represents a symbolic ritual between Scotland and the British monarchy.

Dressed in a sunny yellow coat and hat, Her Majesty appeared to have recovered from the illness that forced her to pull out of an engagement at St Paul’s Cathedral.

On her illness, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “The Queen is feeling under the weather and has decided not to attend this morning’s service at St Paul’s Cathedral marking the 200th anniversary of the Order of St Michael and St George.

“Her Majesty will be represented by The Duke of Kent as Grand Master of the Order.”

It is understood no doctor was called and the Queen still travelled from Buckingham Palace to Windsor on Thursday afternoon to spend there the weekend as planned.
