The Queen expects her staff to greet her by performing the best-possible curtsy or bow.

The act, which shows respect for the head of state, must be performed by both male and female members of the staff – but the way they carry it out is very different.

The Master of the Household in Buckingham Palace was captured on camera showing young people at the Queen’s palace how to appropriately greet the monarch.

In the ITV documentary Queen of the World, the Buckingham Palace’s head of staff said: “What to do if you are a girl, a woman… you curtsy, which is like that.”

The Master of the Household then bent his knees and lowered his head.

He continued: “And if you are a chap just chin on chest, like that.”

Despite the solemn atmosphere reigning within the royal palace, the documentary showed there is also time for laughter and fun.

A member of the staff, Georgine Jeffrey, revealed the palace is “a fan place to work.”

She added: “I say it’s an adventure every day because every day there is always something different, you never find that you are doing the same thing so that’s really amazing because I love a challenge and I don’t like to be bored.

“I followed the Queen for a while and I remember watching her on TV and she was giving a scholarship to a young man from my country and I was like well i wonder if I’m ever going to get that opportunity.

“And finding myself in Buckingham Palace is beyond my wildest imagination.”

Members of the staff don’t often get to meet the royals, despite living and working inside the palaces.

But as members of the Royal Family are often carrying out engagements around the country and across the world, they are less at home then those who work there, as pointed out by Prince Harry.

The Queen’s nephew was filmed meeting some thrilled members of the staff after their curtsy training.

After asking one lady how long she has been living and working at Buckingham Palace, he said: “You guys have spent more time in Buckingham Palace than I have ever had, you have only been here for two weeks but I can assure you that.”

The prince also took the time to joke around with the newly arrived stadd to the palace, asking them if they had “nice rooms” and crying out an amused “oh dear!” after someone revealed they were “partying every night”.
