The family previously lived in New York City, where Madeleine moved in 2010 after breaking off her engagement to lawyer Jonas Bergström, at which point she met British-born financier Mr O’Neill, 44, marrying him in 2013.

Like Mr O’Neill, Leonore, who was born in New York, has US citizenship.

After their marriage, he opted to remain untitled, because a member of the Swedish Royal family must have Swedish citizenship, meaning he would have had to renounce his US passport.

The family plan to live in Florida, where they own a house.

Madeleine, 36, will continue to work for the World Childhood Foundation, the charity which was founded by her mother, Queen Silvia.

She worked for the US branch of the charity while living in New York during the period in which she met Mr O’Neill.

Meanwhile Mr O’Neill will work in both the US and Europe.

For a last few years, the family, which is spending the summer in Sweden, has lived in London.

During this time, Mr O’Neill worked in the financial sector.

They are planning to sell their London home, but will keep their property in Stockholm in the apartments of the Royal Mews.

A statement issued by Sweden’s Royal Court said: “Princess Madeleine and Mr Christopher O’Neill are planning to move to Florida in the United States this autumn.

“The time and opportunity for the United States are good for the family while the children are still of pre-school age.

“Princess Madeleine has a great commitment to children’s rights and will continue working with the World Childhood Foundation and, through the move, be able to focus more on the activities in the United States.

“Mr Christopher O’Neill has previously been working in the United States but will continue his business in Europe.

“The family thus leaves their accommodation in London but will keep their home in Stockholm as before.”

The Court also released the first photo of the new family of five taken by Lena Ahlström.
