It was confirmed on Thursday afternoon that Kate and Meghan will take their places in the Royal box on Sunday afternoon.
A statement from Kensington Palace said: “The Duchess of Cambridge, Wimbledon Patron, and the Duchess of Sussex will attend the Ladies’ Singles Final on Saturday 14th July.”
Just hours later when it was confirmed that Serena Williams had won her place to compete for the trophy, she spoke of how excited she was to have her old friend in the crowd.
The Grand Slam legend told reporters she and Meghan “always had a wonderful friendship”.
She said: “Every year for a couple years she comes out to Wimbledon and has supported me.
“Now she’s supporting me in a different role, but our friendship is still exactly the same.”
Meghan Markle has been pictured at Wimbledon on several occasions in the past, including in the summer of 2016, the summer in which she is thought to have met Prince Harry for the first time.
Ms Williams continued: “We have always supported each other, just been there for each other through a lot.
“I look forward to it.”
Serena was pictured with her husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, at the Royal Wedding in May.
The Duchess of Sussex and the tennis champion have been friends for years, having been photographed together at several events in America.
They met in 2010 at the Super Bowl, where Meghan said they “hit it off immediately”.
Writing on her former blog, The Tig, the Duchess of Sussex said: “Taking pictures, laughing through the flag football game we were both playing and chatting not about tennis or acting, but about all the good old fashioned girly stuff.”
If Ms Williams takes the title on Sunday, she will write herself into the Wimbledon history books.
She would be only the second mother to win the title, only ten months after she gave birth to her daughter, Olympia.
Evonne Goolagong lifted the trophy in 1980, three years after having her first child.
