The Duchess has reportedly cut off contact with her father and not spoken to him for over 12 weeks since the Royal wedding in response to reports that Mr Markle staged a series of paparazzi photos.

Mr Markle has since accused the Duchess of cutting him out of her life, and raised concerns that he may never see his grandchildren if Meghan and Harry become parents.

The former Hollywood lighting director previously told the Daily Mail: “I’m really hurt that she’s cut me off completely.

“I used to have a phone number and text number for her personal aides at the Palace, but after I said a few critical words about the Royal Family changing Meghan, they cut me off.”

However a Royal source has indicated that the Duchess is not to blame for their separation, and noted that she would be willing to reconcile with her father if he contacts her in a “respectful manner”.

Speaking to the newspaper, they said: “The only reason Meghan hasn’t spoken to her father yet is because she is yet to hear from him in a respectful manner.

“Thomas is speaking to the press more than he’s reached out and spoken to his own daughter.”

They added that Mr Markle is still in contact with Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, and could have contacted his daughter via his ex-wife.

They said: “If Thomas truly wanted to speak with Meghan, he could easily have sent a letter to her mother and asked her to pass it along.”

Another Royal expert noted that Meghan still “loves” her father, and is willing to re-establish a relationship with him.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, they said: “She has gone through periods of difficulty with her father in the past, but she does love him.

“That’s what’s been so difficult about this.”

Mr Markle has nevertheless commented frequently to the media regarding his daughter and the Royal family.

Speaking previously to the Daily Mail, Mr Markle said: “I tell you, I’ve just about reached my limit with Meghan and the Royal family.

“They want me to be silent, they want me to just go away. But I won’t be silenced. I refuse to stay quiet.

“They have Meghan treating her father in a way that Harry’s mother Princess Diana would have loathed.”

He also stated that “maybe it would be better if I was dead”, in response to the row which emerged following his comments to the media and the series of staged photographs.
