After changing into a bright pink floral outfit, the Queen joined the rest of her 8,000 guests in the grounds of the palace and chatted with former Scottish rugby player Doddie Weir, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease last year and has set up a charity to raise money for research.

Despite recovering from a cold and recent cataract operation, Her Majesty has had a busy week in the Scottish capital after she accepted the keys to the Palace of Holyroodhouse on Monday.

On Tuesday she hosted a reception for 603 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force which received the Freedom of The City of Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles got to play with a model railway set during a visit to Llandovery station, Carmarthenshire, as he helped mark 150 years of the Heart of Wales Line.
