Princess Eugenie will marry her long-term boyfriend, Jack Brooksbank at St George’s Chapel in Windsor on October 12. And all attendees have been given a specific dress code which is true to Eugenie and sister Beatrice’s style – they must wear a hat.
Meghan and Kate are no exception to the rule and must ensure their outfits are complete with millinery.
This fashion protocol applies to all women attendees – including the Queen and other members of the Royal Family.
Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice are now infamous for their millinery choices to some of the biggest society events of the year.
The sisters caused a frenzy for their outlandish hats when they arrived for William and Kate’s royal wedding in 2011.
Eugenie wore a bright blue hat with grey feather detailing while Beatrice wore a beige hat with an oval design and ribbon features, both designed by Philip Treacy.
The pair has a knack for choosing attention grabbing headgear, with Eugenie stealing headlines with a lime green saucer hat by Philip Treacy, which Eugenie paired with a purple top to Royal Ascot in 2008.
And Beatrice wore a large multi-coloured butterfly hat for the wedding of Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly in 2008, which didn’t go down well with the public.
The sisters toned down their looks for Meghan and Harry’s big day, with Eugenie wearing a sophisticated pale blue dress and white hat while her sister, Princess Beatrice wore a fairytale-like turquoise dress and skipped a hat for a matching head band.
Eugenie and Jack will marry at the same venue where Meghan and Prince Harry tied the knot earlier in May, but will be having a much bigger wedding than their royal counterparts.
The royals will be inviting 800 guests to their big day, 200 more than the Duke and Duchess of Sussex invited for their wedding.
The dresscode was announced on the wedding invitation, and it isn’t just the female guests who must follow orders.
All male attendees must donn morning suits, which Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William are expected to wear.
Royal ladies are expected to wear more conservative dresses according to royal fashion etiquette, and also because Eugenie’s ceremony is being held in a church.
Day dresses are the most appropriate attire for royal weddings, but for evening ceremonies guests are expected to wear fancier and longer gowns.
This rule also applied to Meghan and Harry’s wedding in May, as Kate stunned in a bespoke Alexander McQueen outfit with a matching Philip Treacy hat.
Princess Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank have invited 1,200 members of the public to the event, who will get the chance to see the wedding guests and Royal Family on the day.
Eugenie and Jack’s wedding will cost £2 million, much less than Meghan and Harry’s extravagant ceremony which amounted up to £45 million.
Announcing details of the wedding, a spokesman for Buckingham Palace said: “The couple are delighted to announce an opportunity for 1,200 people from across the United Kingdom to be invited into the grounds of Windsor Castle to share the experience of their special day,” a spokesman said.
“The attendees will view the arrival of the congregation and members of the Royal Family, listen to a live broadcast of the marriage service and watch as the bride and groom depart St George’s Chapel at the end of the ceremony.”
