From the same piercing blue eyes and brow, slender nose and full lips, it was clear from a very young age that Diana was a carbon copy of her father.
The original picture of John Spencer, shared by Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer, is a black and white portrait.
But the image was turned into a colour portrait, revealing Diana inherited her fair hair and bright blue eyes.
Tweeting alongside the unearthed picture, Diana’s brother Charles wrote: “Thanks so much @marinamaral2 for turning one of my favourite black and white pictures of my father into this beautiful colour image.
”Can’t wait to meet you at @AlthorpLitFest in October – and many congratulations on your #ColourofTime bestseller with @dgjones.”
Charles then went on to describe his father, saying: “He was: a gentle, kind, man without any pretentiousness.
“He was a loving father, and a man who enjoyed meeting people of every background.
“He treated everyone with great respect.”
The late Princess of Wales, mother of Prince William and Harry, was one of five children, but her brother John died at a very young age.
She had two older sisters, Sarah and Jane, and a younger brother, Charles, who is now the 9th Earl Spencer.
When Diana was just seven-years-old her father and mother, Frances, divorced in 1969.
John later won custody of the children and when Diana was 14, he became the 8th Earl Spencer, following the death of his father.
The Spencer family later moved to Althorp in 1976.
