At a time when the Prince of Wales was facing mounting pressure to find a wife, Charles dated Lady Sarah in 1977 – the same year he met Diana.
Lady Sarah even accompanied Charles to plush Swiss ski resort Klosters during their whirlwind relationship.
Though little detail is known about the shock coupling, what is known is that Charles abruptly ended it, with suggestions that was after he caught Lady Sarah chatting to a journalist at the resort.
Mirror journalist James Whittaker, told the publication: “Sarah was disarmingly frank about her boyfriend and declared she would not marry Charles ‘if he were the dustman or the King of England’.
“That was good news from where I was sitting and Sarah seemed delighted I was so keen to share it with the nation.”
But according to Mr Whittaker, when Charles found out he was not happy and Charles reportedly told Lady Sarah: “You have just done something incredibly stupid.”
Their relationship ended, leaving Charles to woo Lady Sarah’s younger sister Diana months later.
But despite the break up and their history together, Lady Sarah not only gave Charles and Diana’s blossoming relationship her blessing – she also set them up together on a date, telling The Guardian in a later interview: “I introduced them, I’m cupid.”
Fast forward four years later to 1981, Diana became the Princess of Wales after tying the knot with her bachelor beau in a world-famous ceremony while Lady Sarah wed Neil McCorquodale.
Charles’s secret tryst with Lady Sarah came during a ten-year dating spree causing mounting pressure for the playboy prince to settle down and marry.
A sneak peak at his little black book shows that between Diana, who died in a Paris car crash in 1997, and his wife now Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Charles’s dating history proved colourful.
His exes include Lady Angela Keating, the daughter of Prince Philip’s private secretary, Fiona Cottrell, who posed for men’s magazine Penthouse, and Sabrina Guinness, the grand-daughter of Sir Arthur Guinness, who had already had relationships with Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart, David Bowie and Jack Nicholson.
