The christening of Prince Louis is today, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have officially announced the identities of the young Prince’s godparents

Louis, the 11-week-old youngest son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, is being baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury on Monday afternoon in the Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace in London.

His six godparents were announced as: Nicholas van Cutsem; Guy Pelly; Harry Aubrey-Fletcher; The Lady Laura Meade; Mrs Robert Carter; and Miss Lucy Middleton.

The royal couple have deleted a group of close friends and family, among them is close friend of Harry and William, nightclub owner Guy Pelly.

Why aren’t Meghan Markle and Prince Harry godparents?

Meghan and Harry have both been invited to attend the intimate ceremony, along with other family members.

It is currently unclear as to why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not been named as godparents, but the longstanding family friends listed in the group suggests a childhood connection.

The Queen and Prince Philip will not be present at the ceremony however.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are to miss Prince Louis of Cambridge’s christening, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The decision is understood not to have been taken on health grounds, and to have been mutually agreed by the Queen and the Cambridges some time ago.

This is a breaking news story.
