The Love Princess Diana Instagram account, which has over 64,000 followers, posted the photo of Prince George alongside one of his grandmother.
Users were quick to make the comparison with one complementing: “Same smile as his beautiful late grandmother.”
Another enthused: “I think it’s just the same lips and said smile as Diana.”
Other respondents wrote about how proud they thought Diana would be of her grandson.
“You would be the apple of your grandmother’s eye had she still been alive,” wrote one.
Another said: “Princess Diana would have been so proud of her grandchildren and loved them immensely.”
Some admitted to having an emotional reaction, with one follower admitting “sometimes I see pictures like this I tear up.“
So far the Instagram post has been liked over 5,100 times.
The official photograph of Prince George was taken by photographer Matt Porteous outside Clarence House on the same day as Prince Louis’ christening.
The young Prince was photographed with a charming smile against a brick backdrop with his hands behind his back.
For the occasion he wore a white cotton short-sleeved shirt along with a smart pair of navy blue trousers.
Prince George has just finished his first year in school where he reportedly played a sheep in the school nativity.
He joined the Queen, his great grandmother, to celebrate her 92nd birthday last month during which he appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony with other members of the Royal Family.
Last year marked the 20th anniversary of Diana’s tragic death.
Princes William and Harry used the occasion to speak candidly and emotionally about their late mother.
William commented: “She was extremely good at showing her love…even after 20 years, I still feel that love.”
Harry added Diana was “the best mum in the world. She smothered us with love, that’s for sure”.
