Prince Charles’ 70th birthday is being celebrated early with a new exhibition at Buckingham Palace which open tomorrow and champions his lifelong love of the arts .
The Prince & Patron exhibition is on display in the state rooms at Buckingham Palace and features numerous treasures from Charles’ personal collection.
Among the 100 hand picked artworks is a framed photo from the wedding of Meghan and Harry on May 19.
Four official wedding photos were released by Kensington Palace after their nuptials, but Charles as chosen a candid shot showing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex leaving St George’s Chapel to put on display.
The Prince of Wales walked Meghan down the aisle at the chapel after her father Thomas Markle Sr pulled out of the ceremony due to ill health.
A Palace statement said Charles was “pleased to be able to welcome Ms Markle to the royal family in this way”.
The exhibition will include other family photos including a framed photo of Charles with a young Prince Harry, both wearing flying gear in front of a helicopter, and a never-before-seen photo of Charles with his son William and grandson George as a baby.
A detailed sketch of Prince Philip, drawn in 1983 by Bryan Organ, an English artist best known for his portraits of Princess Diana and Elton John will be on display, as well as a depiction of The Queen Mother from 1973 by Michael Noakes, who also painted The Queen and Margaret Thatcher.
The exhibition will run until Sunday 30th of September.
Birthday celebrations for Charles, who turns 70 on November 14, will continue throughout the year and the Royal Collection Trust will release a range of souvenirs which include a specially painted coat of arms with the shield of the Duchy of Cornwall, the Prince of Wales’s Red Dragon badge, and daffodils – the national flower of Wales.
The range also includes a tankard, tea cup and saucer, side plate and commemorative china gilded with 22-carat gold.
