The Prince of Wales was pictured pouring a pint and raising a glass to a crowd at the Welsh pub as his short trip to Wales came to a close.

The 69-year-old heir to the throne ended his day on a relaxed note after he visited a local primary school Ysgol San Sior Primary school and Bodysgalen Hall.

Charles made the visit after he received a written invitation from pub owners Darryl and Maria Flynn a few days ago, asking him to visit.

Earlier in the day, the royal paid a visit to the rural village near Abergele, where he learned about the history of a yew tree which is believed to be thousands of years old.

Ms Flynn told North Wales Pioneer: “It absolutely meant the world to us. We were honoured and privileged that he chose to come to our pub.

“He was such a warm, genuine man. I was very nervous initially but then put completely at ease when I met him.

“He was absolutely natural. I got the feeling he wanted to stay longer as well.

“He asked about the food. It is brilliant for the pub, brilliant for Llangernyw and it is all about the tree.

“What a wonderful man! He jumped behind the bar, pulled a pint!”

The tree, which is located at St Digain Church, was named as one of the 50 “Great British Trees” in 2002, to make the Queen’s Jubilee.

The Prince met with the the Rev Gwenda Cooper and the Bishop of St Asaph, Gregory Cameron at the church.

The royal was also given an education in Welsh produce during his visit to a primary school this morning, where he spoke to school children about the school’s proactive environmental programme.

Ysgol San Siôr Primary School scheme, which allows 245 pupils to take care of a range of insects and animals, including chickens, pheasants, and bees, fascinated the Prince, who is a keen environmentalist.

The Prince of Wales took a tour of the school’s garden where he saw some of the animals kept there including golden pheasants and chicken.

It is the royal’s fourteenth annual summer visit to Wales.
