The glowing portrait of the Queen that made it into the young royal’s official christening photographs will also be featured in Charles’ Prince & Parton exhibition at Buckingham Palace.

The oil portrait of the Queen was painted from 1872-1973 by Michael Noakes and now visitors will be able to enjoy it up close.

The 92-year-old monarch was not present for her third great-grandchild’s christening but there was a clear nod to her.

The angle of the photos are different compared to Prince George’s official photos, where her portrait was not visible.

The Queen was at Prince George’s christening and was in the official christening photographs that were also taken in the Morning Room.

There are other personal touches in Prince Charles’ exhibition such as a never-before-seen photo of the Duke of Cornwall cradling his first grandson as Prince William smiles for the camera.

Another touching photo is from the Duke and Duchess’ wedding in May.

The exhibition is designed to feel like you are in the drawing room of the Duke of Cornwall’s private home Clarence House or his country retreat Highgrove in Gloucestershire.

The senior curator of paintings at the Royal Collection Trust Vanessa Remington said: “It’s a departure because it is not a standard museum display and the works aren’t shown in isolation, they’re shown in profusion very, very densely.

“Tables are dressed with a range of objects and those are intended to show or give a flavour of the interiors of the Prince of Wales’s own residences because this is a very personal show.”

Prince Charles has selected more than 100 pieces from private family paintings and photographs to mark his 70th birthday this year.

The exhibition will open for the summer along with Buckingham Palace on Saturday and will run until September 30.
